Urijah Faber is one of the most well-known faces in the world of combat sports. Despite his impressive achievements and formidable skills inside the UFC cage, former fighter Urijah Faber faced a life-or-death test of his fighting abilities prior to his career, during a perilous encounter in Bali, Indonesia.

During a conversation about a 2005 incident, Urijah Faber recalled being at a party in Bali and socializing with some girls when he encountered a local man. Although he initially tried to avoid trouble, Faber became aware of a potential threat and decided to confront the situation. He ultimately challenged the locals to meet him outside to resolve the issue. “You wanna go outside? I threw my hat off and I said, “You want to do this man, let’s do it,” said Faber to FIght Life.

What Faber thought was going to be a fair one on one fight, turned out to be a handicap showdown and Faber was immediately outnumbered while fighting everybody. He then got hit by a cheap shot.

Faber said while explaining the situation: “All of a sudden I get a cheap shot in the back of head with a pair of brass knuckles. Another guy comes at me with a bottle, another guy comes at me with a rock.”  Faber had to flee the spot while evading others attacks and it turned into a chase. He went into a store and followed them and was scared for his life. “There’s like four of them. They’re saying one by one, one by one and I’m like begging for my life,” said Faber. His MMA training came in handy as he efficiently beat the locals and at the same time escaped their group punishment.

After trying his best to run away from the mob, Urijah Faber found himself in a cab as he asked the driver to go. The attackers caught up and tried to break into the vehicle 

At that moment, Faber had lost all his hope and was sure that he would die there. “I was like dude I’m done. Thought I was dead for sure…I’m just covered in blood,” said Faber.

Fortunately, the driver took off and it saved Faber’s life but he was heavily injured and admitted to a local hospital. Talking about his condition after the altercation, the fighter said: “I had like a hematoma right here, my back was all cut up. Ended up getting seven different spots sutured in my head. But other than that I was fine. I slept for the whole next day and I fought a month and a half later.”  It was really a close call for Faber and if anything else, the situation would have been completely different.
