UFC Vegas 41: Main event featuring Marvin Vettori, Paulo Costa successfully official at 205 pounds
Paulo Costa vs Marvin Vettori
The scheduled middleweight bout at UFC Vegas 41 is now taking place as a light-heavyweight clash as Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori have shifted from a catchweight of 195-pounds, organised due to Costa’s inability to cut weight to 185 pounds, to 205 pounds now, which is the official weight for UFC’s light-heavyweight fighters. The news was first reported by veteran sports journalist Kevin Iole. UFC Vegas 41 is happening at UFC Apex, Las Vegas, the USA on October 23, 2021.
The main reason the weigh-in for the bout has been compromised multiple times is that Costa was weighing 211 pounds just 48 hours before the fight night, which is 26 pounds overweight for a middleweight fighter. Now Vettori still wanted to fight but the fight had to be scheduled at an agreed weight, hence, earlier what was decided to be a catchweight bout of 195-pounds, now at a light-heavy weight of 205 pounds. Vettori will be guaranteed 20% of Costa’s fight purse for Costa’s weight cutting problems.

Both the fighters of the main event are formal title challengers, both losing to reigning UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Vettori lost this year in June via unanimous decision whereas Costa lost last year via second-round knockout. A win for either one of these two fierce strikers will bring them back in the title contention picture, alongside other top-notch middleweights Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier.
Other than that we have an underrated, exciting co-main event that deserves more attention than it got. Rising lightweight prospect, Grant Dawson is looking to extend his 5-fight win streak against Ricky Glenn. Both the fighters are coming off a fresh victory via knockout. Dawson is a little more interesting to watch out for, the reason being he has only lost one fight in his 18 professional MMA bouts.
