UFC Vegas 44: Matt Brown ruled out of exciting fight against Bryan Barberena
Matt Brown tests positive for COVID-19
UFC Vegas 44 has lost an exciting fight in Matt Brown vs Bryan Barberena from its event.
COVID-19 has once again proved to be a spoilsport for MMA fans as it leads to another fight being called off. Violent welterweight fighter Matt Brown was scheduled to take on Bryan Barberena at UFC Vegas 44. The event is scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With only 11 days to go from the Fight Night event, the welterweight legend revealed on Twitter that he won’t be making it to the bout against Barberena. Brown has been part of the UFC for more than a decade. Matt wrote on Twitter today, “Shitty day today I tested positive for covid so my fight night weekend is off.”
Brown is on a great run with three wins in his last five fights. His most recent outing was against Dhiego Lima in June of 2021 where he knocked out his opponent in the second round. Brown is one of the fan-favorite fighters as he promises a barn burner every time he steps into the octagon.
“I’ll get over it quickly,” Matt Brown positive about his recovery
The veteran has a record of 25-18-0 in his entire professional MMA career. The fighter has been putting on a show inside the UFC octagon since 2008. Brown was very close to getting a title shot after his undefeated run of 7 fights between the years 2012-2014. The fighter lost to former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler and didn’t make it to the title contention.
“I was sick af over the weekend but feel better for the most part now. Lost smell today. Did a jog outside today and lungs burned some I thought maybe it was just the cold air but maybe I’m still sick. I’ll get over it quickly and go from here,” wrote Matt in his follow-up tweet.
As of now, no official confirmation has been released from the promotion about the replacement for Bryan Barberena for his bout at UFC Vegas 44 on December 5th.
