Watch: Israel Adesanya lose his mind over Francis Ngannou’s shocking performance at UFC 270

Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya was back in his hometown New Zealand as he was unable to watch UFC 270 at the Honda Center, California. He was hoping to be at Francis Ngannou’s corner, helping him out for the heavyweight title defense against interim champion Ciryl Gane but due to travel restrictions, he had to sit back and watch the fight like us, back home on our electronics.

But nevertheless, Adesanya was all the way in support of fellow African champion Francis Ngannou and it could be seen just by the look on his face.

‘The Last Stylebender’ looked tense for his fellow champion as the fight began and could be heard instructing over to the TV, “Boom. Oh, almost. The body. Another one to the body, just to the body. Hold that frame, just to the body“, while also shouting out to Ngannou to watch out for the elbow Gane was trying to land.

The middleweight champion knew Francis was losing out in the first two rounds and was repeating over and over to not follow Gane around, to be sharp and wait for his opportunity.

He said, “I know what he’s [Ciryl Gane] doing that’s why it’s frustrating me cause it’s working”, referring to Gane trying to catch Ngannou off guard.”

Adesanya was shaken at the later stages of the fight when Ngannou threw Gane to the ground and he reacted exactly like every other viewer did and one of his friends could be heard saying, “Bro, that was a Bautista Bomb.”

He even tried helping out Ngannou by lending his power by imitating the popular anime show ‘Dragon Ball Z‘ wherein he emulated a popular move in the anime, the spirit bomb.

After Francis Ngannou won by decision he went on to say, “The main event. Wow! Amazing! Um, Francis got it done. Was down two rounds, rallied up for the last three as a champion does. Now the world is his oyster.”

Israel Adesanya feels he has a point to prove at UFC 271

Israel Adesanya made a championship-worthy performance at his last fight against ‘The Reaper’ who he deservedly beat and took home the title of UFC middleweight champion.

Now he’s set to face a rejuvenated Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 who had admitted that he was too emotional in the build-up to the fight.

Adesanya said on his YouTube channel, “This is the best I’ve ever come into a camp in shape, and I’m not going out of shape I promise you that. I have a point to prove to myself, but just also to like, you know, those people, I just want to shut them the f*** up. I mean the motivation for me is just that he’s not making excuses like Vettori or Costa.”

Adesanya said now that Whittaker accepted his loss, he can take him more seriously in their rematch and is now more motivated to take out the fellow Kiwi for good.

“He’s accepted that, so that makes me take him seriously that OK, he’s got a point to prove, as well, and he’s been training. He’s motivated. That gets me up in the morning to shut him up again worse than the first time. That’s what gets me motivated.”

Watch out for another masterclass but this time, maybe a more duelling bout between the two.
