Ciryl Gane is one of the most exciting heavyweight fighters of all time. Gane moves like a middleweight and possibly has some of the slickest striking skills in the history of the UFC’s heavyweight division. He was very close to winning the UFC heavyweight championship, and his grappling inexperience cost him the fight (against Francis Ngannou). Looking at his past, it will be difficult to imagine that he amassed such skills of excellent quality in a short period.
Gane started his MMA career in 2018, and in only 4 years, he was fighting for the UFC heavyweight championship. Making his UFC debut in 2019, he went on a six-fight winning streak which included the likes of Junior Dos Santos, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexander Volkov and Derrick Lewis.
Gane is now preparing to fight Jon Jones for the heavyweight championship at UFC 285. Jon Jones could be the ultimate test for Gane, and a victory over Jones could solidify Gane as the best heavyweight in the world. Jones is returning after a three-year hiatus, which gives Gane an advantage based on ring rust and being the more active fighter. It remains to be seen how the fight will play out between the two.
Ciryl Gane’s origin as a fighter is truly remarkable

The most fascinating thing about Gane’s fighting career is that he didn’t start his training till he was 25 years old. During high school, he played Football and Basketball and didn’t even consider a career in combat sports until his mid-20s. It is so uncommon among MMA fighters as most of them would have taken up combat training during their adolescent years.
Gane was a furniture seller before taking up Martial Arts training. A co-worker approached Gane to take up training at a Muay Thai gym, and there has been no looking back ever since.
Gane was 13-0 as a Muay Thai fighter and also the national champion by the time he joined MMA Factory under the guidance of Coach Fernand Lopez (instrumental in developing Francis Ngannou as an MMA fighter) in 2018. Lopez’s guidance helped Gane dominate the division and win the interim heavyweight championship against Derrick Lewis at UFC 265.
Taking up Martial Arts at a late age and becoming one of the swiftest strikers in the heavyweight division is an astonishing fact. Only a very few fighters have ever achieved similar feats. Gane’s accomplishment will certainly inspire everyone taking up Martial Arts training to pursue a career in Combat Sports.
