Dustin Poirier is one of the biggest superstars in UFC and has been part of some of the biggest PPV events in recent years. One of the biggest ones being his UFC lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi.
Going into the fight, Poirier had to come to Abu Dhabi and get ready for the fight, Poirier was a bit nervous but after getting a great welcome and hospitality his opinions changed. Upon arrival, Poirier was asked which car to go in and he chose the Rolls Royce.
“I’ll go with the rolls,” said Poirier. Diamond didn’t expect such a welcome and was genuinely surprised by the people who welcomed him wholeheartedly. “Just landed 21 hours travel. We hear those going down fight week Abu Dhabi. Coming into Abu Dhabi, it was incredible, you know. I fought all over and never had a welcome like that. It was really cool to see how excited the people are for me to be here for the event. In the build to this I was saying, I’m coming into enemy territory, hostile territory. But I don’t feel that way at all,” said Poirier.
It was expected from Poirier to feel like being in an enemy territory in Abu Dhabi given than Khabib Nurmagomedov is a huge name there but after experiencing the warmth of the people he was absolutely impressed.

Dustin Poirier vs Khabib Nurmagomedov was a huge fight and fans were super excited for it. Both fighters had huge fan bases and given their skillset, many expected a war.
Poirier who was in a five fight win streak beating opponents such as Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje, had a great momentum but everything was futile against the force Khabib Nurmagomedov was inside that cage. Poirier failed to win the fight and got submitted in the third round. Talking about his fight with Nurmagomedov, Poirier said on American Top Team’s Punchin’ In podcast.
“Not super strong. None of these guys that I fought feel crazy strong to where it’s overwhelming, it’s just that his position and his balance were so good. He knew where my weight was, where it needed to be to get in a better position. He’s just so advanced. And his feet are like hands. His foot sweeps and the way it breaks you down, it’s good. He’s good, so good.” Dustin is known being one of the best boxers in the UFC, however, he got totally outclassed by Nurmagomedov’s wrestling and wasn’t able to do anything which ultimately led to his loss.
