Conor McGregor vs Tony Ferguson

Legendary coach John Kavanagh is very excited, like everyone else for the return of Conor McGregor after his injury against Justin Poirier earlier this year.

Conor McGregor is way too legendary to ignore his return or to match him up with small-time fighters upon his return to the octagon. We can all agree on one fact, that is Conor’s campaigns of 2020 and 2021 were very forgettable. The 2020 campaign was hampered by COVID-19 and the 2021 campaign due to his loss/injury against Dustin Poirier, which was a shocker!

There are many potential fighters who are looking forward to getting a matchup with McGregor. Some of the possible fights we may expect to watch are McGregor vs Diaz or McGregor vs Ferguson.

I’ll be honest, the Nate Diaz trilogy is very, very tempting,” Kavanagh said on The MMA Hour. “It’s a fight that gives me nightmares. The man doesn’t stop coming forward, whether it’s three rounds or five rounds, but it’s an intriguing fight. So that one is definitely very interesting.”

Also speaking on Tony Ferguson, Kavanagh said, “He’s a very unorthodox striker, grappler. I think the buildup would be fun for the fans. So any of those kind of legacy guys. Look, that division is killer,” Kavanagh said. “Your Dan Hooker’s in there. The Islam Makhachev fight would be amazing as well, for obvious reasons. And we have whoever is going to win this belt coming up this Saturday. So, look, any of those names. I’m just excited to see Conor back healthy, training.”
