On July 4, 2020, he tweeted about the significance of his moniker, saying that “Gamebred” refers to an animal that has been intentionally bred to have the qualities of being courageous and resilient.

Jorge Masvidal had a frightening encounter when a kid pulled a knife on him and his friend near their elementary school. They were just riding around and saying hello to people when the kid suddenly pulled out a knife and threatened them. Masvidal managed to push the kid away and ran for safety. A year later, Masvidal encountered the same kid again, but this time, the kid got into a fight with one of Masvidal’s friends.

When Masvidal tried to intervene, the kid recognized him and slapped him in the face. Masvidal immediately recognized the kid who had pulled a knife on him earlier. And then he reacted with rage, fighting the kid until the teachers arrived to break it up.
