“Valentina was running” – Taila Santos issues a bold call out for SCARED Valentina Shevchenko
Taila Santos vs Valentina Shevchenko
Valentina Shevchenko and Taila Santos fought for the women’s flyweight title at the co-main event of UFC 275. Shevchenko is currently ranked #2 in the UFC’s female pound-for-pound list, and “The Bullet” has established herself as one of the most dominant champions on the UFC roster.
The Peruvian has held her position as a champion for the last four years. She made all her opponents look easy, and her last two wins over Jessica Andrade and Lauren Murphy were a thing to behold. She was looking for another dominant performance at UFC 275, but Santos gave her a run for her money.
Santos came into the fight with an amazing momentum of a four-fight win streak. She looked confident and fought well but it wasn’t enough to dethrone the champ. After five rounds of back and forth, Shevchenko was announced as the winner via split decision. Although the decision turned a lot of heads and many thought the Brazilian was robbed.
Santos had to undergo surgery to fix her broken orbital, and now that she’s back in the gym, she’s trying to get her much-deserved rematch against Shevchenko. Talking to MMA Fighting Santos said, “We’ve been asking for fights over and over again, asking for the rematch, really. Tiago spoke with Mick and the UFC, informed them I was well and training. They even said that Valentina was running. She asked them for fights, but not against me.”
Taila Santos is ready to face any other top-ranked opponent in the absence of Valentina Shevchenko
Valentina’s resume speaks for herself, and her aura of invincibility was intimidating that her opponents used to bail on their gameplans only to get finished by ‘The Bullet.’ Santos was the first one first Amanda Nunes who exploited Shevchenko’s ground game and gave her a tough run for her money.
Talking about this aura of invincibility Santos said, “All the girls say Valentina is a monster, but I’ve been saying for a while she has no ground game. I showed that there was no reason to fear. I knew she wouldn’t accept a rematch after that fight. I called her out anyway, but I knew she wouldn’t take the risk of losing her belt. She wouldn’t rematch me after I showed she was no big deal. She’s scared.”

While they wait for a response from the champ, Santos is ready to take on the number 1 ranked, Manon Fiorot, or number 2 ranked, Katlyn Chookagian. She just wants to stay active and eventually fulfill her dream of becoming a UFC champion.
