This college football season appears to be the year for young players to shine. Another name added to the list of star players is Jeremiah Smith following his scintillating one-handed catch, that astounded everyone watching Ohio State’s game against Michigan State.
Taking the lead since the beginning, the Buckeyes didn’t allow Michigan State to score beyond eight points, resulting in a remarkable 38-7 win. Smith shone exceptionally in that game as he scored two incredible touchdowns along with 83 yards and five receptions.
The freshman receiver “flipped the game”– in the words of head coach Ryan Day, when he caught a 17-yard pass single-handed. With his impressive speed and skill set, Smith executed an untouched end-round midway through the second quarter, bringing Ohio State to a lead of 24-7.
That one-handed touchdown catch from Devin Brown wasn’t the only impressive play that the Ohio State receiver made. Around three plays before that, he made a twisting 27-yard catch from between two Michigan State defenders. Smith and a senior standout receiver Emeka Egbuka are said to be one of the best receiving duo and offensive weapons that Ohio State has.
Jeremiah Smith picks another catch as his favorite from the game
A one-handed catch that took everyone’s breath away at the stadium surprisingly wasn’t the favorite catch of Smith from the game. During the post-game media interaction, when the wideout was asked about his favorite catch from Saturday’s game, he named the catch before the 17-yard one-handed one.
Smith sure made an impression after Saturday’s game, as he became the first freshman to catch two touchdown passes in the first game of the season in the team that is best known for its receivers.
After this game, Smith has improved to 364 yards with 19 receptions and five touchdowns in the last four games he played since joining Ohio State. He and his team are now headed for week 6’s matchup against Iowa Hawkeyes on the next Saturday.
