It is better late than never for Xavier Legette. The rookie wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers has been itching to make his impact felt on the team’s offense. Unfortunately, he was unable to do so with Bryce Young as his starting quarterback. But ever since Andy Dalton took over, it has been a different story for him.
The 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft had his first breakthrough game last week in the Panthers’ win against the Raiders, just days after expressing his frustration with the team’s offense. But he was unable to find his way into the endzone. Well, today was an entirely different story as Andy Dalton helped Legette score his first NFL touchdown.
The pass was a milestone throw not just for the rookie wideout but also for the veteran quarterback. Andy Dalton threw a perfect pass to Legette with less than one minute left before halftime. The throw tied up the score between the Bengals and the Panthers at 14 points apiece.

The Carolina Panthers lost to the Cincinnati Bengals despite a solid outing from Andy Dalton and the offense
Dalton’s throw to Xavier Legette marked the 250th career passing touchdown throw by the quarterback and it was the rookie’s first taste of scoring in the NFL. Legette was jubilant after he made it to the endzone and could not hold himself back from celebrating.
He began to jump around with excitement and Andy Dalton could not help but smile as he watched him cherish this moment. Despite the 34-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, tonight was a special game for the Panthers. It proved to the team that they have a new wide receiver upon whom the offense can rely, and that is, Legette.
Tonight, the Panthers were left without their primary wideout Adam Thielen. He has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring tear on a touchdown pass last week against the Raiders. But Legette took this opportunity to prove himself as he ended the game with 6 receptions for 66 yards and 1 touchdown.
Things are finally beginning to look up for the Panthers. While the team did lose the game tonight, the offense was out there competing, the game was not unbearable to watch as has been the case in the first two weeks of the season.
