Alex Pereira‘s name is bigger than it has ever been. The reigning light-heavyweight champion recently came off an incredible title defense at UFC 300 which went viral on social media. Now he seems to be on fan service as he recovers from his injuries. Meanwhile, Pereira has taken to social media to share an interesting clip with his fandom.

Alex Pereira has an Instagram following of over 3.3 million and growing. His latest reel has over 4.7 million views, which is a video of him with supposedly a room full of fans of all ages. Pereira briskly walks toward the camera in a fighter stance and his fans in the back follow suit. Poatan then pulls his signature ‘war cry move’.

The song Pereira chose to put in the background is a groove metal song by Sepultura called “Itsári” from their 1996 album The Roots of Sepultura. The song’s title translates to “roots” in the Xavante language, and the song includes chanting from a Xavante healing ceremony. It was recorded in the Amazonian jungle in Mato Grosso, Brazil, with members of the Xavantes tribe.

Alex Pereira was rumored to make his heavyweight move at UFC 301. This would have been weeks after his title defense against Jamahal Hill. However, the Brazilian reportedly suffered toe injuries before and during the bout which forced Jorge Guimarães to cancel any plans of appearance at Rio de Janeiro.

The interviewer asked Pereira if he would go for another title defense or move to the heavyweight division. Pereira replied saying it is hard to answer that question and he has not thought too much about it yet.

If it’s a longer period of time, I’d obviously rather defend my belt. If it takes too long and I fight at heavyweight and there are injuries, when am I going to defend my belt? I don’t want to hold up the division.

Pereira said his best-case scenario would have been a heavyweight fight at UFC 301. However, he addressed his two broken toes. Poatan said he did not want to hold up the light heavyweight division with subsequent injuries.
