WHAT A FRAME: KL Rahul effected a brilliant run out

Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul pulled off an inspirational run out during the match against defending champions Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. While wicket-keeping, Rahul run Quinton de Kock out to restrict the opposition from chasing the target. As a result, after the tied match, the super over also ended with levelled scores.

The game went down to the second super over where KXIP finally registered a victory to gain two crucial points. With this victory, KXIP climbed two places to find a spot at the sixth position in the Points Table.

Chasing a small target of six runs in the first super over, Mumbai Indians were down to two runs required on the ultimate delivery. Mohammed Shami bowled a terrific wide yorker to de Kock who could only manage to dig it straight to Nicholas Pooran. He threw the ball at the wicket-keeper’s end where Rahul grabbed an excellent take.

The ball was not near the stumps, and the skipper made an extended dive to effect the run out. This jaw-dropping fielding effort led to a tied super over.

KL Rahul pulled off a similar run out during the fifth Twenty20 International (T20I) game against New Zealand earlier this year. The run out occurred in the third over of the game after Tim Seifert punched Navdeep Saini towards cover for a single. A mixup between Seifert and Tom Bruce led to Sanju Samson picking it up and throwing it towards the stumps.

No one was near the stumps to back up Samson’s throw, so Rahul himself raced towards it. He collected it diving forward to whip off the bails to run Bruce out.
