Kylian Mbappe appears to have taken a page out of Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez’s book of sneering in a surprising move. Mbappe brought out the Martinez Move while out with his PSG teammates. A video circulating on the internet shows the Parisian holding a red object in the same manner Emi Martinez held the Golden Glove award.

Mbappe and Martinez had a rough back and forth between each other which also became a subject of criticism for pundits. It seems that Kylian Mbappe has decided to return the favor, as he was seen mimicking Martinez’s controversial gesture during a recent match. The move has surprised many, as it is not often that players engage in such playful banter with their opponents. While some have applauded Mbappe for his sense of humor, others have commented on the player’s professionalism, Regardless of one’s opinion on the matter, it is clear that the French forward has a strong competitive spirit and a desire to win.

As the world keeps on chiming in on the subject, the players have displayed no bad blood between each other. The two are yet to face each other since their final encounter.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, mocked Mbappe by asking for a “moment of silence” for him in the changing rooms after the match. He then took it a step further by holding a baby toy with Mbappe’s face on it during the victory parade in Buenos Aires.

Unhappy with his behaviour, the French FA filed an official complaint after feeling as though Martinez had overstepped the mark. The PSG man however was not bothered by the celebrations and issued a mature opinion:

“I talked with him after the match,” Mbappe told reporters last month. “I congratulated him. For him, it was a life goal. For me too, but I lost, so I have to be a good sport. Celebrations are not my problem, I don’t waste time on such trivial things.” And Mbappe doesn’t seem to have a problem with Martinez as he was filmed performing the very same gesture as him.

Emiliano Martinez punished by FIFA for his ‘celebration’

After collecting his Golden Glove award, Martinez rather obscenely placed it in his crotch area on the podium. Footage has emerged of the Frenchman replicating those very same antics at PSG’s training headquarters.

While some may see this as a playful retaliation, it is worth noting that Martinez and Argentina were found guilty of violating the FIFA disciplinary code for their actions. A statement from FIFA said Argentina made “potential breaches of articles 11 (Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play) and 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, as well as of article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations.”

However, It seems like Martinez won’t be able to play his ‘mind games’ much longer as FIFA begin to crack down on ‘unfair distraction’ of players during penalty shootouts.
