Dream11 faces criticism as associated with Chinese investors

BCCI’s decision to award the rights to Dream11 faced criticism for associated with Chinese investors. Following the criticism, the online fantasy sports platform has claimed it is a completely Indian brand.

“Dream11 is a completely homegrown Indian brand. We are proud to say that the entire product & technology of Dream11 is developed within India.

“It is exclusively available for only Indian sports fans,” a Dream11 spokesperson told IANS.

Furthermore, the spokesperson asserted that the majority of its investors are Indian while Chinese origin investor holds a small stake.

“Dream11 is almost entirely owned by Indians. It includes its founders, all 400+ Indian employees, and our Indian investors. Out of the five investors, one of the investors has Chinese origins. And holds a small minority stake,” the spokesperson explained.

Earlier, the government banned 59 Chinese mobile apps due to rising tensions between India and China.

Glancing at the anti-China sentiments, Vivo pulled out from the cash-rich competition for this year and Dream11 has come a long way, won the rights with a bid of Rs. 222 crore on Tuesday.

The spokesperson added that they are pride to be the only sports brand to ever be IPL’s title sponsor.

Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will host 60 games during IPL 2020. Abu Dhabi will host the opening match between CSK and RCB on September 19.
