“We can get a race win this year,” Lewis Hamilton optimistic about a Mercedes win this season
Lewis Hamilton
Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton finished P3 in the British Grand Prix after almost winning it at a point in the race, but lost it out of bad luck. He still fought for the third position against the likes of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez, and also won it over Charles. Lewis was so competitive in Silverstone that he has now raised the bar for Mercedes at least fighting for the wind by the end of the season.
Mercedes started the season with a lot of struggles brought to them by the new regulations in 2022, they couldn’t keep up the pace to even fight for the 3rd position and relayed on DNF for a podium. Barcelona was a huge jump in the upgrades for the Silver arrows, but they couldn’t keep it up for long and went down the path at Monaco and Baku. Silverstone again has brought out fighting spirit back in the Mercedes camp and is most likely working on the right path of upgrades to get their car off the line with the best position.
“But definitely, [it’s] hugely encouraging. For a long, long time we would make changes and not see it do what it said it was going to do or improve the car,” Lewis shared his encouragement for the Mercedes engineers.
“It was a good step in Barcelona, but then we had several difficult races following it. And then we just had this last race, the last two races, which were quite strong, and that’s really encouraged us that we’re moving in the right direction, that there really is potential in the car,” said Lewis.
“With a little bit more digging and a little bit more hard work, hopefully we can get closer to having a chance to win a race. So I truly believe we can get a race win this year,” Lewis concluded being optimistic.

George Russell also brought out his thoughts on the Mercedes achievement in Silverstone.
George Russell couldn’t finish his race in Silverstone, ending his streak of finishing in the top 5 in the first 9 rounds of the 2022 season. He went out in a horrific crash that included Zhou Guanyu and was luckily enough to be at his best again after the crash.
He commented on Mercedes’s progress but also asked not to overhype the situation, “I don’t think we want to get too carried away,” said Russell.
“We need to keep on evaluating. Silverstone was a really good step in the right direction. We’ve taken some really good understanding from there, but we’ve got to go again this weekend and see how we get on,” Russell concluded.
Mercedes were on power with the Ferraris and with the most reliable engine on the track, if they manage to unlock the most out of their W13, things could turn around for Red Bull and Ferraris.
