‘We’ll obviously keep a close eye on them,’ NASCAR Senior VP Scott Miller hints at a possible intervention from the organization if the Chastain-Hamlin feud escalates

The Gateway outing of the cup series was definitely one of the most entertaining races that have been put forth by the NASCAR cup series with the next-gen car as the inaugural race in St. Louis produced fireworks. Team Penske racing veteran Joey Logano won the race after an intense duel with his former teammate Kyle Busch in overtime.

The highlight of the race was surely the battle between the No:1 Trackhouse racing driver Ross Chastain and literally everyone else on the field. The ‘watermelon man’ was super aggressive on the track driving wheel to wheel against all the drivers that come in front of him in the race to the front stretch.

The most heated one in the battle was the one between him and veteran Denny Hamlin as the veteran started retaliating against the youngster as Chastain nearly got him out of the race twice. The track battle continued with pushes back and forth until  Denny Hamlin was suggested to let t slide for later by the team.

Ross Chastain also had his play on ruining Championship leader Chase Elliott’s race. Now with just a handful of days until the next weekend and in the wake of Hamlin’s threatening to get his revenge on  Chastain NASCAR senior VP Scott miller has come forth revealing that NASCAR is ready to step in if the time demands it.

Scott Miller acknowledged that NASCAR certainly doesn’t want to see any escalated funds among the drivers on track though there is a certain amount of the kind of let it settle among them. He went on to say that though they were annoyed by the track battle between Hamlin and Chastain since there was no real contact they were fine with that. He pointed out that both Hamlin and Elliott were trying to make life miserable for Ross.

“I mean, certainly we don’t like to see things like that, but there’s a certain amount of … we kind of have to let them handle it on their own somewhat. And what we saw, while we were annoyed by it, there was no real contact. Neither one. I mean, they tried to make life miserable for Ross, we all witnessed that,Scott Miller said.

He went on to say that he is relieved about the fact that there weren’t any blatant take-out or anything like that happening among them. Justin marks went on to point out that it was obvious from post-race comments of Chastain that he made some mistakes and wanted t make things right and suggested that it’s up to the drivers involved to make decisions on how things should move forward.

“But at least we didn’t see a blatant take-out or anything like that. And it was obvious from Ross’ post-race comments that he’s made some mistakes out there and wants to make it right, but it’s kind of up to those guys to sort it out and how it moves forward from there,” Scott Miller added.

He went on to say NASCAR will have a close eye on them if things go wrong among them and might call them to the official hauler to talk about it. He went on to say that NASCAR will make a decision on how to go forward with the situation in their Tuesday morning debrief that is coming up this weekend.

“We’ll obviously keep a close eye on them as we do in all these situations. Probably will, may have them in the trailer face to face to talk about it as we’ve done before. We have our debrief, actually just after this call of the race weekends. We do that on Tuesday mornings, and we’ll discuss that situation further and decide how we’re going to move forward with it,” says Scott Miller.
