On the latest episode of SmackDown, WWE continued to tease further dissension between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. Despite Randy Orton playing peacemaker, things are not looking good for their friendship right now. Following the intense faceoff, Rhodes competed in a dark match in front of the Oklahoma crowd.

The American Nightmare squared off against Austin Theory in a non-title bout. As expected, Cody hit a Cody Cutter-Cross Rhodes combination on Theory to emerge victorious. After his win, the Undisputed WWE Champion cut a celebratory promo. Rhodes spotted an infant at ringside and asked the parent how old it was.

In response to learning that it was 3 months old, the former AEW star hilariously declared it Oklahoma’s baby. Rhodes then went to ringside to hold the baby as the crowd cheered him on. The 39-year-old would’ve felt better after what can be considered a forgetful night for him.

First, Owens denied his request for a six-man tag team match against The Bloodline. The former Universal Champion opted for a normal tag team match instead, pitting himself and Orton against Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu

Later, KO explicitly warned Rhodes not to interfere in their bout, while The Viper calmed things down. Although The Prizefighter said otherwise, Randy Orton told Cody to help them if they needed it. As such, the latter ran out to even the odds in the main event. However, he inadvertently cost R-KO the bout, which further escalated the already-rising tensions between both stars.

What initially stirred tensions between good friends Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes

On the SmackDown season premiere episode, Cody Rhodes shockingly joined forces with Roman Reigns to take down The Bloodline. Rhodes signed the contract to team with his longtime rival at Bad Blood. And well, fans knew instantly this decision wasn’t going to be met with favorable reviews from the locker room.

Most notably, Kevin Owens was tortured for several years by Reigns and the faction. Last week, The Prizefighter looked disappointed after watching the Georgia Tech segment. In fact, he contemplated hitting his friend with a steel chair before hugging it out.

Despite that, KO couldn’t hide his frustration on this week’s SmackDown. The former Universal Champion took multiple shots at Rhodes for his upcoming tag team match with Reigns. All in all, only time will tell how things progress for the longtime friends in the coming weeks.
