The biggest obstacles for Lionel Messi’s return to FC Barcelona this summer are La Liga’s financial fair play rules and club’s financial troubles. It is reported that Messi is clear that he wants to return to Barcelona once again.

Messi’s contract with Parsi Saint Germain is set to expire in June 2023. According to sources, the 35-year-old might be interested in getting back to his familiar Blaugrana colors after the present contract with PSG expires. The report stated that Messi and PSG had a verbal agreement over a contract in December, but things have changed since last month.

The main obstacle for the Blaugrana in their bid to re-sign Messi is the club’s Financial Fair Play situation. FC Barcelona is under pressure to cut down its wage budget and is facing a battle to register the new contracts of Gavi, Ronald Araujo, and others. With La Liga giving no breathing space, the Catalans will need to find ways to improve their salary margin. They might need to sell a few players so that they can accommodate Messi on their books. On the other hand, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been very vocal about the dream plan of reuniting Messi and Barcelona. In an interview he said, “I feel in moral debt to Messi. He’s the best player in our history. I will do my best to ensure he can have the best ending of his career with a Barça shirt on“.

Even though Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi has reportedly stated that Messi’s FC Barcelona return is not possible. But a journalist Santi Aouna has reported claims that the superstar has had a falling out with manager Christophe Galtier. That, along with PSG’s UCL exit, recent poor results, and a tense relationship with fans is now forcing the Argentine to look elsewhere, with Barcelona an option.

More rumors, speculations, and twists can be expected along the way until Messi makes a firm decision on his next future. Messi reportedly has options to move to the United States for David Beckham’s Inter Miami. Saudi club Al Hilal are also looking at their chances to sign the Argentine great. Only time will tell if Barcelona can find the solutions to bring their former captain back to the club.

After yet another Champions League exit, PSG has been left without what would be their crowning achievement. They’re now reportedly focusing on the future.

Although the players in the dressing room remain totally focused on Ligue 1. They are still top of the table and 10 points ahead of Marseille. Other people at the club are thinking about how to adjust the project.

One of the unknowns in the short term is the situation of Lionel Messi. Although Messi is already in talks about his possible renewal, as per reports. At this stage, not even coach Christophe Galtier is reportedly putting his hand in the fire. The coach, in an interview, reportedly said, “It’s too early to know his future“. Galtier also reportedly said that Messi and the club President Naseer Al-Khelaifi are in close contact over the former’s contract matter

Galtier reportedly said, “I’ve already said that his stay would be positive news for everyone. I know there has been a lot of criticism after Bayern Munich. But Messi has been decisive in many moments of the season”.

The coach might not be there for next season. Many people feel that there is a strong chance that Galtier could lose his job at the end of the season. It might be as a result of the round of 16 Champions League exit. Especially if the club thinks that a move for a coach such as Zinedine Zidane or Luis Enrique can be pulled off. It’s also to be seen whether Messi still stays in PSG or if he moves out for some other adventures elsewhere.
