Team Penske Racing’s Joey Logano made history in the 2024 Cup season finale at Phoenix Raceway, winning his third Bill France cup and etching his name among the greates of the sport. He took full advantage of the playoff system, to compensate for his underwhelming regular season run and eventually win the championship.

One of the many factors that makes Joey Logano one of the most dangerous drivers on the grid is his selfish driving style. He only cares about winning the race and has never hesitated to test the limits of the rule book in terms of aggression on the track. Recently while talking to ex-racer Kenny Wallace on his YouTube show, he explained this character of him.

He pointed out that being a race winner comes with an opportunity to be a different person on the track and being a selfish b–thole during races is often celebrated. Logano has no regret being that, since it’s what he is supposed to do, be selfish and do everything possible to make sure his team secures the race win.

Being a race car driver gives you the opportunity to be someone completely different… It’s actually celebrated, right? Like you can put your helmet on and be the biggest selfish b–thole you’ve ever met. And it’s what you’re supposed to do! That’s what the job is to be selfish and go out there and win.

Joey Logano asserts he isn’t selfish off the track

But Joey Logano, in the words of Kyle Busch is “two faced.” Once the race is over and the helmet comes off, he is different person. He is only selfish on the track and off of it he is among the most loving and caring with his close ones.

If you lived your life that way when you got out of the car… you’d not be that good of a person and you probably wouldn’t have any friends and you’d live by yourself.

Joey Logano added.

The selfish trait, as Logano suggested, is something every driver and every athlete sometimes needs to thrive. Though the same attitude sometimes causes issues for them in life, at the end of the day it is worth to take those risk as the rewards is often huge.
