Why is Charles Leclerc called ‘Lord Perceval’?

Charles Leclerc, a Monegasque driver drives in Formula One for the Scuderia Ferrari team. Considered by many to be one of the most talented drivers in F1 history, Leclerc has quite a few nicknames but one name that has stuck with him is “Lord Perceval.”

It is a very peculiar nickname compared to the nicknames that other drivers have on the Formula One grid. Charles Leclerc’s full name is ‘Charles Marc Herve Perceval Leclerc’ and this is where it all started when it comes to the origin of the nickname.

Leclerc has quite a few nicknames but Lord Perceval is the one that has stuck to him like glue. This is mainly down to the fact that in recent times his fans have taken a liking to the nickname and prefer calling him Lord Perceval. It has to be said that the name has got a nice ring to it.

Who added the Lord part to Charles Leclerc’s name?

Perceval is the fourth word in the Monegasque’s name but the Lord part was added by none other than his Spanish teammate Carlos Sainz.

In 2021, Sainz and Leclerc were asked to sit down for an interview and this is when Leclerc revealed his full name. After hearing the name Carlos was a bit taken aback and said, “Perceval?!” However, knowing Sainz, he saw the humorous side of it and indicated that his name had a “Lord-Esque” ring to it and gave him the title “Lord Perceval.”

Charles Leclerc’s fans quickly grabbed on to the idea and now he is popularly called Lord Perceval by fans all over the World. The Lord part has also got to do with the impressive showings that Leclerc has been able to put for Ferrari over the years and, he is someone who is known to drive the car to the absolute limit.

This is something that his fans adore about him and it is “fitting” that Leclerc is called “Lord Perceval” because his exploits on track are nothing short of exceptional.
