Current Repco Supercars Championship leader Will Brown will be the latest supercar driver to make his debut in NASCAR. He is set to drive in the Cup Series race at Sonoma Road course on June 9. The driver will be the latest Supercars star to come into the sport after Shane Van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki.
Will Brown will take control of the No.33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet car, replacing Brodie Kostecki. This is after last week’s announcement that revealed Kostecki will not be taking part in NASCAR events in 2024 due to a fallout with the team.
The 25-year-old driver seems to have gotten this chance due to his ties with Peter Addetron‘s MobileX. They have fully backed the driver’s NASCAR entry. Brown deservedly got this call-up, after his impressive showing at COTA last year, when he replaced Kostecki because of illness.
Brown has already had connections to NASCAR before driving as he worked with Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon. He once took part in a testing program with an ex-Erebus Commodore Supercar a few years ago, where the RCR duo was present. Fans of the drivers will surely be excited to see how he performs during the Cup Series race.
Why did Brodie Kostecki leave RCR?
Brodie Kostecki was one of the best talents that was under RCR’s management. The driver won the 2023 Supercars Championship and displayed solid performance on his NASCAR debut with RCR. But, as revealed, the driver has recently left the NASCAR team after getting dropped by his Supercars side.
The driver and his sponsor MobileX owner Peter Adderton’s relationship took a massive hit. According to sources the reason behind this fallout was due to “toxic work culture”. Moreover, following his deteriorating relationship with Adderton other sponsors also backed out which led to RCR ending relationship with him.
His car will now be driven by Will Brown as Adderton wants to give the 25-year-old a chance in NASCAR. Brodie Kostecki was set to race for at least five races this season and Richard Childress had big hopes for him, but now it seems all the effort and plans became a waste of time.
