Will IPL 2023 final be MS Dhoni’s last game?
Dhoni was often asked the question of when he will hang his boots for CSK, and again and again, he came up with some witty answers and was seen fully avoiding this question.
MS Dhoni
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) without MS Dhoni is unimaginable. But a day will indeed come when the Thala won’t be part of Yellow Jersey; but when that day will come, cannot be guessed. Dhoni is famous for not just his tactics, but for sending a shockwave through his unexpected decisions. He did that on 15 August 2020, when through an Instagram post, he announced his retirement.
Dhoni was often asked the question of when he will hang his boots for CSK, and again and again, he came up with some witty answers and was seen fully avoiding this question. In the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, fans rejoiced after hearing him say the iconic “Definitely” when he was asked about his participation in IPL 2023.
Sure, it’s difficult to say beforehand what’s his plan on IPL retirement. And at the same time, his answers when asked about his retirement during IPL 2023 revealed nothing.
Will IPL 2023 final be MS Dhoni’s last game?
In IPL 2023, when he was asked the same question at a toss during one of CSK’s games, his answer was: “You’ve decided it is my last IPL, not me.”
Then in another post-match interview, he thanked the Eden Gardens crowds as most of them came in yellow jerseys thinking Dhoni is playing his last IPL. “I will just say thanks for the support, they came in big numbers. Most of these guys will come in a KKR jersey next time. They are trying to give me a farewell, so thanks a lot to the crowd.” This answer, even after CSK’s victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders, saddened Thala’s fans to a great extent.
To commentator Harsha Bhogle‘s question on his retirement, Dhoni said he doesn’t want to take the retirement headache as he has ample amount of time before deciding on his IPL future.
“I don’t know. I have 8-9 months to decide. Why take that headache now? I’ll always be there for CSK, where it’s playing or something outside.” CSK fans definitely want to see him don the yellow jersey next year and will never get tired of seeing him leading CSK from the front. But the day will come when he will no longer be a part of the franchise; until then, keep guessing!
