The Milwaukee Brewers were crowned World Series champions on Wednesday night as they beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 at Tropicana Field. William Contreras then joined an exclusive list after being named the World Series MVP.

The Brewers this year were a team full of star performers. Names like Christian Yelich, Jake Bauers, Jackson Chourio, Garrett Mitchell, Brice Turang, and youngster Cooper Pratt all chimed in whenever the team needed.

Another big name among them was Contreras. The catcher had an impressive showing in the postseason with the bat and showcased his excellent skills from behind the plate in Game 1.

In the series opener against the Rays, he had 2 hits and caught 2 runners from stealing bases. That performance saw him become the first catcher this century to have multiple hits and multiple CS in a World Series game.

He eventually went 8-for-21 with 4 RBIs in the Fall Classic and batted with a high .381 average. This saw him earn the honor of the 2026 World Series MVP.

With this honor, he joined an exclusive list in MLB. He is now just the 8th catcher to be named the World Series MVP and the first since Salvador Perez in 2015.

Speaking of the entire postseason, Contreras went 19-for-51 in 13 games. He had a slash line of .373/.448/.588 with 3 home runs, 9 RBIs, 7 walks, 2 doubles, and 1 stolen base.

As the Brewers celebrated on the ground, the camera panned towards Willson, who donned a jersey of his brother. He was seen getting emotional as the NL Central team recorded the final out and won it all.

He would later make his way down to the field. The two brothers then shared an emotional hug on the ground as William’s team celebrated their first title in franchise history.

The Brewers’ star later called his elder brother his role model and praised him.

My brother is my role model. I don’t have a lot of friends. He’s my friend. I love him. I love all the support that he gives me. If I have something to ask somebody, I ask Willson.

William Contreras said as per MLB.com

He, along with teammates Jackson Chourio and Antonio Senzatela, joined another exclusive list. They joined Alex Bregman and Luke Gregerson to win the World Series and the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in the same year. Before the 2026 season, Venezuela stunned Team USA to win the 2026 WBC.

The celebrations will continue for the younger Contreras, his family, and his teammates. With the win, the Brewers also removed themselves from the list of active teams that have never won the World Series. As for the Rays, even a third time was not a lucky charm for them.
