It was not the first time the two were together, and not the only time the public realized how close the two ‘best friends’ really were. Later in the season, the Wings superstar confirmed that Fudd was her girlfriend.

This stopped rumors that started when Bueckers was a freshman. It was evident at the time that she had swayed her fellow guard to join the Huskies based on their relationship.

Fast forward to now, and Azzi Fudd is joining her girlfriend again, this time as the Dallas Wings’ No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft. During her introductory press conference, a reporter asked her a question:

Paige announced last year on TikTok that y’all were a couple. I’m wondering if it’s still the case? And if so, if you have talked to any other couples in the league about how they negotiate that dynamic as pro teammates?

The Dallas Morning News’ Kevin Sherrington asked

Throughout the time he asked his question, the 23-year-old Curry Brand athlete was visibly expressionless. As soon as Sherrington completed his question, a Wings PR executive jumped in and suggested questions about personal lives would not be answered.

Normally, had Azzi Fudd answered this question, it might not have created any more buzz than it usually does with anything related to Paige Bueckers. But since the PR executive rebuked the question, it led to a furor on social media.

It so happens that in the hours after the clip reached social media, it has garnered more than eight million views and thousands of comments.

Most of the latter are questions asking why the Dallas Wings felt it was inappropriate to ask Azzi Fudd a question about her relationship status with Paige Bueckers, if men are asked about it from time to time.

They felt this was a disservice to what the women of the WNBA were fighting for this past calendar year, and that is to earn an equal revenue share as the men in the NBA. Check out examples of those reactions below.

But this instance has now left fans wondering if they are even capable of doing the basic things right. If they can have two players who have officially revealed their dating status, fans believe this question is equally normal.

Fudd arrived at the Dallas Wings’ press conference knowing that the league is at the highest point of growth it has ever experienced. Knowing she was going to be a part of this, the Huskies alum was asked what she thought about this surge in women’s sports.

I feel you’ve just seen people start to bet on women… You see how special we are… The game is at its peak, at an incredible place, and the growth is not stopping.

Azzi Fudd replied

It seems she believes that this growth spurt will not stop anytime soon. Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark, and Angel Reese are fueling a growth that has seen the league reach new heights.

With the 2026 AP college All-American coming in and several other similarly popular college prospects coming in, this growth will continue to trend upward.
