In Short
  • WrestleMania 42 match card revealed, featuring key matches on both Saturday and Sunday.
  • Cody Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton in the main event on Saturday.
  • Asuka vs. Iyo Sky is tentatively listed for WrestleMania, pending Nikki Bella's medical clearance.

Joe Tessitore was on ESPN‘s Get Up on WWE’s behalf to unveil the WrestleMania 42 match card across Saturday and Sunday. As could be seen below, Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre in an unsanctioned match and the 6-man tag team match pitting The Usos & LA Knight against Logan Paul, Austin Theory, and IShowSpeed will happen on Saturday.

Both of these matches will be airing on ESPN 2 in the first hour, which implies that either one of them will kick off the proceedings on night one. Other matches on Saturday include Stephanie Vaquer defending her women’s world title against Liv Morgan.

AJ Lee will compete in her first WrestleMania match since 2015 by putting the women’s IC title on the line against Becky Lynch. Also, Gunther squaring off with Seth Rollins, the Fatal-4-way for the women’s tag team titles (Lash Legend and Nia Jax defending against The Bella Twins, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, and Bayley & Lyra Valkyria) are also set to go down on the first night.

WrestleMania Saturday will be headlined by Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against his longtime mentor-cum-former great friend, Randy Orton, who will have Pat McAfee in his corner. As for Sunday, Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar and the IC title ladder match (Penta vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Dragon Lee vs. Rusev vs. JD McDonagh vs. Je’Von Evans) will be airing on ESPN in the first hour.

One could definitely expect Lesnar vs. Femi to kick things off. The remaining matches on night two of WrestleMania include Jade Cargill defending the WWE women’s title against Rhea Ripley, Sami Zayn defending the US title against Trick Williams, the return of Demon Bálor taking on Dominik Mysterio, and Roman Reigns aiming to take down CM Punk for the world title in the main event.

Is there anything left to be added to the WrestleMania 42 card?

As things stand, WWE has confirmed 13 matches across both nights of WrestleMania. The Saturday version of Mania has 7 (4 on the men’s side and 3 for the women). Meanwhile, its Sunday counterpart is currently sitting at 6 matches with just one women’s match on the card. There’s definitely room for more, but one that has to make the cut with fans yearning for it is Iyo Sky vs. Asuka.

‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ said in a video package on this week’s Raw that she’ll teach Sky a lesson for not only ditching her but also trying to rip Kairi Sane away from Asuka. ‘The Genius of the Sky’ responded to Asuka’s comments through a post on social media. Sky affirmed that Asuka’s WWE accolades are truly brilliant.

Sky added that she and Sane have always looked up to Asuka, but the latter’s poor treatment of ‘The Pirate Princess’ has been affecting her stance on the women who claimed to have paved the way for Sky and Sane in WWE.

Iyo reaffirmed her allegiance to Rhea Ripley and will be her shield everywhere. Sky further said she’s definitely not afraid to face the senior whom she once loved dearly and hoped to see Asuka in Vegas. While these women have been building toward their match for quite some time, WWE has yet to make an official announcement regarding it.

Many were expecting Sky vs. Asuka to be made official for WrestleMania on this week’s Raw itself. The reason behind WWE holding it off was given by Bryan Alvarez. He noted that WWE is still awaiting the medical clearance of Nikki Bella, who has been in walking boots since injuring her leg in a recent brawl on SmackDown.

Because if Bella doesn’t get the nod to compete, she and Brie would be replaced by Sky and Sane in the fatal-4-way women’s tag team title match at WrestleMania. BodySlam reported yesterday afternoon that Sky vs. Asuka in a singles match was still listed tentatively as part of the WrestleMania 42 lineup.
