Delhi Police announce Rs. 1 lakh as reward for info leading to arrest of wrestler Sushil Kumar

Sushil Kumar

Just a day after a court in Delhi issued a non-bailable warrant against Sushil Kumar, a reward of Rs. 1 lakh has been announced for any person having information leading to the potential arrest of the wrestler. The two-time Olympic medalist was named as a suspect along with nine others in the murder of 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Rana at the Chhatrasal Stadium.

After the incident, special teams were formed to investigate the case and trace down the suspects. However, Sushil has been absconding and hasn’t been found yet. The warrant for arrest against him is now non-bailable and a look out circular is in place. It is noteworthy that Sushil had indeed given a statement soon after the incident but before he was named as a suspect stating that those involved in the incident came from outside and that those inside the stadium weren’t involved.

According to ANI, a reward of Rs. 1 lakh has been announced by the Delhi police for giving any information which would lead to the arrest of Sushil Kumar. Further, Ajay Kumar, another suspect who is absconding as well, has had a reward named against his name as well – a sum of Rs. 50,000.

Police sources had spoken to The Indian Express about Sushil Kumar and the incident yesterday saying, “We sent a letter to the Delhi government, informing that their official, Sushil Kumar, and his associate, Ajay Kumar, who is a physical education teacher, have been named by the victims. Departmental action should be taken against him. After registering an FIR, we served notice to him, but he switched off his phone and has been untraceable since. We also conducted raids at his friends’ residences and now have decided to announce a reward for information leading to his arrest and a file has been placed before senior officers.”

There is a proper search which is on for Sushil Kumar at the moment and it remains to be seen if he will be traced down anytime soon.
