Sushil Kumar after being arrested in connection to Chhatrasal Stadium Brawl

Indian ace wrestler Sushil Kumar arrest is one of the biggest news in Indian sports. Sushil and his accomplice Ajay Kumar were arrested on Sunday by the Delhi Police for the killing of 23-year-old junior wrestler Sagar Dhankar at the Chhatrasal Stadium during a brawl that occurred over an argument. After absconding for nearly twenty days the wrestler was arrested by Delhi Police from Mundka in West Delhi. Sushil is now in 6-day police custody as the Delhi Police Crime Branch has been investigating the case.

Kumar has been suspended from his post of senior commercial manager at Northern Railways with immediate effect after being arrested. Reports suggest that Sushil has confessed that he only wanted to teach a lesson to the deceased so that no one would mess with him in the future or consider him weak. He added that he had no intentions to murder Sagar Dhankar.

Dhankar’s post mortem report revealed that he died due to ‘cerebral damage’ after being hit on the head by a blunt object. Two others were also injured in the scuffle that took place on May 4. In the screengrab, the 23-year-old can be seen lying on the ground while a crowd thrashes him with sticks.

The Delhi Police has claimed the footage is from the parking lot of the Chhatrasal Stadium where Sushil and his men beat Dhankar and two others mercilessly. “Sushil had asked (his friend) Prince to make that video. He and his associates thrashed the victims like animals. He wanted to establish his fear in the wrestling community,” Delhi Police was quoted by Times Now as telling the court last week.

The disagreement between Sushil Kumar and Sagar Dhankar, which led to the brawl, was over a flat that belonged to the former World Champion in the Model Town area of Delhi. Sagar used to stay on rent in this flat with a friend named Sonu Mahal, who is hailed as the right-hand of wanted gangster Kala Jathedi.
