Tokyo Olympics bound wrestler Bajrang Punia has injured his knee during the semi final bout of the Ali Aliev Memorial wrestling tournament. With only 28 days to go for the Summer Games, it is a huge concern for the ace grappler. The encounter against Abdulmazhid Kudiev of Russia got forfeited when Bajrang was down by 0-4.

During a scramble early in the game, Punia hurt his right knee. He was seen wreathing in pain before he limped off the mat. While the severity of the injury is yet to be known, this comes as huge blow for Bajrang who is one of India’s brightest medal hopes.

Injury woes for Bajrang Punia ahead of Tokyo Olympics

Punia has conquered every tournament he has featured in, he is now all set to shine at the Olympics in his maiden appearance in Tokyo. But injuries continue to haunt the star grappler as he marches towards the Tokyo Olympics. During the Asian Championship in Almaty In May, Punia had injured his elbow in his semi-final match and withdrew from the final against Japanese Takuto Otoguru.

While he was impressive in the earlier rounds of all the tournaments he has featured in, Punia has not been able to go all the way twice on his route to Tokyo. Punia is currently training in Russia as he spars with worthy opponents in his preparations for the Summer Games. With under a month to go for the much-awaited Tokyo Games, all eyes will be on his recovery.
