WT20 Challenge Trailblazers vs Velocity: Trailblazers thump Velocity for a 9 wicket win

A dominating display from Smriti Mandhana led Trailblazer’s side as they trashed Velocity by 9 wickets. They have almost booked a spot in the finals of the tournament after winning the game in the 8th over itself. A complete dominating performance by Trailblazers side was led by World No. 1 T20 spinner Sophie Ecclestone who did the damage as Velocity were reduced to 47/10 in 15 overs.

Skipper Mithali Raj won the toss and Velocity opted to bat first at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Opener Shefali Verma made 13 runs after hitting one six and one four and got out in the third over. Her partner Danielle Wyatt was also removed by veteran Jhulan Goswami.

Mithali Raj made just 1 run in 5 balls while Veda Krishnamurthy got out for a golden duck. Last game’s top scorer Sune Luss and Sushma Verma were reduced by Ecclestone quickly and Velocity struggled at 27/7 in the ninth over. Shikha Pandey and Leigh Kasperek added 10 and 11 runs further as Velocity could only make 47/10 in 15.1 overs.

For Trailblazers, Ecclestone took 4 wickets for just 9 runs. Jhulan Goswami took 2 wickets for 13 runs in 3 overs. Deepti Sharma aslo bowled an economical spell for 4-1-8-1. Rajeshwari Gaikwad finished 3 overs for 13 runs and 2 wickets.

Trailblazers complete chase in 8 overs

Deandra Dottin and Richa Ghosh after winning the game

Smriti Mandhana and West Indian Deandra Dottin opened the batting for Trailblazers chasing a low score of 48 runs. However, Smriti was removed by Leigh Kasperek for 5 runs. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh joined Dottin in the fourth over.

The duo required just four more overs to complete an outstanding 9 wicket victory over Velocity. Dottin made 29 from 28 balls hitting 5 boundaries. While Ghosh remained unbeaten on 13 from 10 balls with a six and a four.

Supernovas will play Trailblazers in the final league stage match of the tournament and will require a win to knock Velocity out of the finals. Velocity have a poor net run after this loss and will be out from contention if Supernovas win against Trailblazers. On the other hand, Velocity will go through if Trailblazers defeat Supernovas in the last game of the tournament. The finals will be played on 9th November.
