Kanako Urai, popularly known as Asuka among the WWE Universe, is a Japanese professional wrestler. She is currently signed with WWE and is one of the top stars on the roster. When she signed with the company, Asuka became the first female Japanese wrestler to sign with WWE in over two decades.
The Empress of Tomorrow started her career as Kana, in the AtoZ promotion, in 2004. She announced her retirement in 2006 and returned in 2007. Asuka had returned as a freelancer and wrestled for several promotions, where she won several accolades like the JWP Openweight Championship, Smash Diva Championship and Wave Tag Team Championship.
Asuka signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2015, where she became the first Japanese wrestler with the company in over 20 years. On NXT, she held the Women’s title for 510 days, breaking the record for the longest reigning champion on the brand. She moved to the main roster in 2017, where she even became the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble winner. Since then, Asuka has gone on to become the third Women’s Triple Crown Champion and the second Women’s Grand Slam Champion.
