The championship belts of WWE are the top prize of the company. These championships are on the line at every pay-per-view event of WWE. It is the dream and goal of every wrestler in the company to win a championship at some point in their career. But after they win the title, do the wrestlers get to keep the belt at the end of the day?

The WWE superstars work hard to get a title opportunity in their careers. Some may get lucky, as they may get recognized by the company and get a huge push, like Roman Reigns. Others may not get so lucky. Whatever the case, once everything is all said and done, the championship winners do in fact, get to keep their title belts with them.

On one occasion, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was asked if wrestlers get to keep their title belts after they lose. Austin replied that the championship is never truly kept by someone, as it is always passed around from one guy to another. It’s a different case if a wrestler is a current titleholder, then he gets to keep it. He might take it home with him, or take it wherever he wants to.

WWE titleholders are expected to carry around their championship wherever they go. It always serves as free marketing. They can take it home with them or take it to any other public place. When they win the championship belt, it becomes theirs. However, when they lose, in most cases they have to return the belt, which is in turn given to the new titleholder.

Sometimes wrestlers have even customized their title belts according to themselves, which could be only used by them. There are also cases when instead of taking back the title belt from the previous holder, they just give a new one to the new titleholder. In that case, the previous holder of the title can keep the belt with themselves if no one asks for them.

As mentioned earlier, WWE superstars are allowed to bring their title belts home with them. However, there have been cases where other WWE stars stole championship belts from the titleholders.

The most famous two cases of the WWE title belts being stolen were by CM Punk in both cases. First was when Punk’s legendary 434-day reign as the WWE Champion ended at the hands of The Rock. On the road to Elimination Chamber, Punk ambushed The Rock and stole his title belt, declaring that it still belonged to him.

The second time was when CM Punk beat John Cena fair and square for the WWE title. However, Vince McMahon, who despised Punk at that time, had other plans. He brought in Alberto Del Rio, but before Del Rio could cash in his Money In The Bank contract, Punk put him down with a kick. In that storyline, Punk’s WWE contract was up, making him a free agent. Punk taking away the championship would count as stealing. Despite all this, Punk took the title that he rightfully won and fled the building with the WWE title.
