Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made a surprise appearance on the New Year’s Evil edition of NXT. The Brahma Bull extended his return to WWE by paying a visit to the developmental brand on Tuesday. In the closing ten minutes of the episode, The Rock delivered a profanity-filled promo and thanked the live audience. Following the show, NXT’s head booker Shawn Michaels sent a message to The Rock on social media.
Taking to X, Shawn Michaels thanked all of his stars, who competed on the special night. Furthermore, the WWE Hall of Famer expressed his gratitude to The Great One before promising better things to come in the future. To no surprise, The Rock’s appearance helped NXT garner its largest viewership number in over five years. The episode drew 957,000 total viewers, with 341,000 viewers (0.25) in the demographic.
The Rock’s promo caught a lot of eyes on social media. Most notably, his opinion on burying the hatchet with Cody Rhodes during the Raw Netflix premiere. Fans were not happy with the Moana star seemingly breaking character and ruining a year of storytelling. In response, The Rock addressed the concerns by telling those fans to enjoy the ride he is about to take them on.
Thank you to all our #WWENXT Superstars for an incredible night at #NewYearsEvil and a heck of a start to 2025!

Huge respect to @TheRock for bringing the ELECTRICITY!! ⚡️ The best is yet to come. #WeAreNXT
Other than the closing segment, The People’s Champion appeared in a backstage segment on the show. The Rock spoke with Ethan Page, even wildly spanking the former NXT Champion. Furthermore, the former WWE Champion lauded his daughter, Ava Raine, as “The Final Boss” of the developmental brand.
Was The Rock’s promo on the Raw Netflix premiere confirmation of his WrestleMania status?
Over the past few weeks, conflicting rumors regarding The Rock’s status for WrestleMania 41 were spread online. While most suggested that he is unavailable for the event, a few were hoping to see him wrestle again soon. On the Raw Netflix premiere, The Rock himself seemingly confirmed his status for the Las Vegas spectacle.
During his promo, The Great One shouted out Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, two of his rumored opponents. According to many, this was indication that The Rock was wrapping up his feuds and programs for the time being. As such, the Moana star is unlikely to work this year’s WrestleMania.
As always the case with The Rock, he could appear anytime in the foreseeable future if he becomes available. TKO and WWE will keep its door open for a future program involving the legend. However, the current reported plans are for creative to work under the assumption that he will not be at the show.
