Jinder Mahal is one of the most underrated wrestlers of recent times. Even though he isn’t outstanding, Mahal’s rise from a jobber to WWE Champion is really commendable. Jinder Mahal comes from a wrestling background, with his uncle Gama Singh being a well-known villain in stampede wrestling.
Gama Sign is also well-known for his brief stint in the WWE. The Modern Day Maharaja is of Indian and Punjabi descent and was born in Canada. He began his wrestling career at the Martial Arts Fitness Center in Calgary.
In 2002, the man of peace made his professional wrestling debut at Premier Martial Arts Wrestling (PMW) as Raj Dhesi. Mahal’s real name is Yuvraj Singh Dhesi, but he has never wrestled under the ring name Yuvraj in his career.
In addition to wrestling at the PMW, Jinder Mahal also wrestled at the Stampede and the Prairie Wrestling Alliance (PWA). He wrestled at these independent promotions until 2010. Jinder began his WWE career in 2010 by joining its developmental territory, FCW. The Modern Day Maharaja has been wrestling under the ring name Jinder Mahal since his FCW days.
Mahal made his WWE debut as a heel in April 2011, and his first televised match was against Vladimir Kozlow, whom he defeated. Mahal’s first run in the WWE lasted until 2014. During his first run, he was a part of the stable called 3MB, which consisted of himself, Drew McIntyre, and Heath Slater. He returned to the WWE in 2016 and became the WWE Champion in 2017 by defeating Randy Orton at Backlash PLE.

Jinder Mahal thought of opening a subway franchise after leaving WWE in 2014
Jinder Mahal started competing on the independent circuit in 2014 after being released from his WWE. He wrestled at the Reality of Wrestling under the ring name Raj Singh. Mahal wrestled at the World Wrestling Council (WWC), the Inoki Genome Federation (IGF), and even at The Great Khali’s promotion, Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE). Mahal’s life had reached its lowest point at this time, and at one point he even thought about turning wrestling into a pastime rather than his primary job.
During an interview with Metro.co.uk in 2017, Jinder Mahal stated that he wasn’t going to quit wrestling but was going to stop pursuing it as his main career. He said that he was about to buy a Subway franchise but then thought of how he was still young and not in his prime. He decided to work hard, and that’s what made him a WWE Champion.
“Yeah ha ha, I think it got misconstrued a little bit, I wasn’t going to quit wrestling….I was in fact going to open up a Subway franchise, but I decided I’m too young, I’m not even in my prime yet, and if I give this my all, give it my best one more time, I could make it to the top. Which I did, I gave it my all, and now I’m WWE Champion”
Jinder Mahal was born on July 19, 1986, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Man of Peace graduated from the University of Calgary with a business degree in communications and culture. Mahal is private about his personal life, and his relationship status is unknown. Along with English, he speaks Hindi and Punjabi fluently. Mahal is close friends with the Scottish warrior Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater.
