Austin Theory currently holds the United States Championship but looks nowhere to be found on the match card for SummerSlam. But his title defense has been scheduled for two weeks later on SmackDown where he will take on Santos Escobar. Theory has been vocal about how Escobar picked up his victory in the U.S. Title Invitational Final. He expressed his disapproval and called him a bad guy for injuring Rey Mysterio

While speaking on SmackDown Lowdown, the US Champion explained how Escobar is essentially a bad guy. Austin Theory stated that he was shaken by the kind of conclusion of the match. He hilariously stated that he sat down in the crowd with his popcorn and was meant to enjoy the match, but he could not finish it. Moreover, he said that he thought LWO was a family, but after seeing the matchup they had, it felt unbelievable to him.

Austin Theory said that he was furious at Escobar as he knocked out his childhood hero, Rey Mysterio and picked up a selfish victory. Considering this act, the US Champion called Santos a bad guy and assured that he would take care of it in a few weeks. He recalled how the 39-year-old had already registered a victory over him, but in a non-title match. Thus, he concluded by saying that he would teach a lesson to the Mexican Superstar and prove himself to be the greatest US Champion.

The masked luchador suffered an injury during the match when he was hit head first on the floor upon Santos’ suicide dive. A commercial break was then followed by an injury, which gave time for the officials to look after Rey. The match was abruptly ended just after the break as Rey was unable to compete, and the victory was handed to Escobar.

After surmounting the odds, Santos Escobar has gotten a shot at the United States Championship. The Mexican Superstar won a fatal-four-way match on the July 14 episode of SmackDown. He also won the bout against Rey Mysterio on the July 28 episode of SmackDown.

The United States Championship will be put on the line when Escobar challenges Austin Theory two weeks from now. The match will be held on the August 11 episode of SmackDown, airing live from Calgary, Canada. The episode will also witness the aftermath of SummerSlam, which will be aired live from Detroit on August 5.

Whether the LWO member can capitalize on this opportunity remains a big question. On the other hand, there have been concerns about Rey Mysterio, as he has suffered a legitimate injury on SmackDown. Nevertheless, if Santos Escobar makes the most of his opportunity, then Rey would be prouder of him than anyone else.
