Bret Hart is one of the greatest wrestlers ever to have set foot in the squared circle. The Hitman was the face of the WWE during the 90s, and his outstanding in ring ability was the reason for sold out arenas in the company. Bret Hart worked as a jobber during the initial stages of his career at the company.

Hart’s infamous match in 1986 against Tom Magee put him in the spotlight and impressed Vince McMahon a lot. McMahon, who wanted to make Magee the next Hulk Hogan, later realized that Hart had made Magee look better and that Tom Magee was nothing special after Magee beat Hart in the match.

Seven years after the match, Hart became the WWF champion for the first time after beating Ric Flair at a house show in 1992. This indicated that McMahon had found the successor to Hulk Hogan. Hart recently discussed what Vince McMahon told him after he won the WWF Championship in an interview with The Ringer.

He said that McMahon urged him to make all decisions and that no one should be allowed to dictate to him how to wrestle; rather, he should be the one to do it. In order to keep the other wrestlers happy, Hart claimed that he had to listen to their opinions. However, he added that, on Vince’s suggestion, he would advise other wrestlers if he thought that something wasn’t quite right.

“When I became champion, Vince gave me a lecture on it one time, saying, ‘You’re the champion. You call the shots. No one tells you how to wrestle. You’re the guy that tells everyone else how to wrestle.’ And I made that my new rule……I became a very detailed guy and I think just the passion and the workrate that I brought to wrestling is finally being appreciated today.”

The Hitman left the company on a bitter note in 1997, and he had no contact with him after the death of his brother Owen Hart. Eventually, he made amends with McMahon in 2010, and both were involved in a storyline, which set stage for a match at WrestleMania 26, where Hart defeated McMahon.

Bret Hart discussed how genuine and rational his matches were in the same interview. He said that because he was always at the right position at the right time, he didn’t need to move in the appropriate direction. According to Hart, being a great wrestler is frequently underestimated and misunderstood. He asserted that although wrestlers are excellent actors as well as athletes, neither quality gets enough recognition.

“If you watch my matches back, I think you see a psychology and a logic that’s always there. The matches just seem real……We don’t get credit for being great athletes and we don’t get credit for being great actors when in fact we’re probably a combination of them both in full motion.”
