At the WrestleMania kickoff show, WWE delivered a brilliant response to fan frustrations and anger with an excellent booking segment, effectively diverting attention away from any discontent. However, this strategic move necessitated changes to their future plans. This shift in direction became apparent with the recent alteration in the booking of Cody Rhodes on Smackdown.

Insights provided by Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful had initially suggested that Cody Rhodes would face off against Jimmy Uso in a highly anticipated matchup on Smackdown. However, in a surprising turn of events, WWE opted for a last-minute substitution, deciding to feature Solo Sikoa instead of Jimmy Uso in the scheduled bout against Rhodes.

Speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast, the Undertaker candidly revealed his anticipation for Cody Rhodes’ segment on Smackdown. The Deadman admitted that he was eager to see what Rhodes would say, particularly when the latter declared that he wouldn’t face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. Undertaker confessed that his heart sank at that moment, sensing what was to come next. As expected, The Rock made his appearance and took Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania spot, confirming the Undertaker’s intuition.

I want[ed] to hear Cody's promo. It was great, so good & I was so invested. When he said ‘…just not at WrestleMania’ my freaking heart just sunk into my stomach because I knew in that moment what was about to happen. Believe me, money-wise, having The Rock at ‘Mania, brother, come on, against Roman who’s been Champion for what, 13 years now? Samoan vs Samoan. It's huge & it is what it is.

Undertaker further revealed that while the match between The Rock and Roman Reigns undoubtedly made sense from a financial standpoint, considering their status as two of the greatest wrestlers, with Reigns as the Universal Champion and the top superstar on the roster, and The Rock’s unparalleled mainstream appeal.

However, WWE opted to pivot from this match, recognizing the wishes of the fans. Instead, they’re heading toward Cody vs. Roman, reflecting a shift toward fan-driven storytelling and preferences within the WWE universe.
