Despite not being on the show, Cody Rhodes still got to perform in front of his home city of Atlanta last night. He defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in a dark match. And then he proceeded to communicate with his people. Although he didn’t name anyone, Cody essentially addressed the swirling rumors of Dwayne Johnson’s potential WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns. He started by saying he was tired of returning home without gold by his side.

Further, Cody said it needs to be changed. The American Nightmare alluded to the fact that he’s not immune to the unbridled speculation that has picked up since The Rock’s groundbreaking return. However, holding his ground, Rhodes asserted that he was the right man for this job. Moreover, the 38-year-old stated that he’s going to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches and finally return to Georgia with a championship.

The accrued concerns among Cody fans are justifiable. The man was robbed of the biggest moment of his career when he succumbed to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania last year. However, Rhodes decided to get back to the drawing board and start from scratch.

The only thing that makes me tired of coming home is coming home empty handed…I think we need to change that. I’m not immune to all the news, everything that’s happening, what’ll happen, what won’t happen…all I can tell you is this…I’m the right man for the job, the best man for the job.

In the meantime, he teed off with a beast like Brock Lesnar, went through perpetual tantrums of The Judgment Day, and got the better of a menacing artist in Shinsuke Nakamura. In a nutshell, Rhodes has endured a lot.

Cody Rhodes goes face-to-face with CM Punk on Raw

This week’s Raw will serve as the final stop for the red brand en route to the Royal Rumble. And the company is pulling all the stops to make it feel that way. Having said that, Cody Rhodes is slated to confront CM Punk.

In what would be their first in-ring segment in over a decade, some bombshells are expected to be dropped. Both Punk and Cody are fan favorites to win next weekend’s Royal Rumble match. Though Punk is still holding the pole position, Cody is not that far behind.

The fans are brimming with excitement for their face-off. One could only expect the tension and blurring of the lines when two of the best talkers in the business collide. It would be the last opportunity for either man to land his final shot before heading for the wrestling grandiose in St. Petersburg.
