Main Event Jey Uso and the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes won the undisputed tag team championships at Fastlane. The two put up a spectacular performance, which got a huge reaction from the fans. However, following the match, the new champions started celebrating a little too much, which was evident when they sat down at the press conference following the event.
At the press conference, Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes walked in. Before they could answer any questions, Cody revealed that they had some alcohol while they were sitting on the bus after their match. Cody said, “I’m going to give you a full disclosure… full disclosure UD, and I might have had a libation or two on the bus, maybe,” and Cody laughed after this.
This did not cause any problems in the press conference or during the event. However, the interaction between the two instantly became funny when it was clear that they were drunk. The two answered almost all the questions at the conference. They also praised each other and were happy that they won the tag titles as partners.
This marked the seventh tag team championship win for both Cody and Jey, but their first together. Previously, Jey had won titles exclusively with his brother Jimmy Uso, while Cody had partnered with various wrestlers such as Drew McIntyre, Bob Holly, Ted DiBiase, and his brother Dustin Rhodes (Goldust) in WWE.
Cody Rhodes comments on taking Dusty Rhodes’ place in NXT
Cody Rhodes will appear on WWE NXT for the first time since his return to the company in 2022. This time around, Cody has an announcement to make on the show, as fans are hyped up for what the American Nightmare has to say. However, Cody’s history with the developmental brand of WWE goes back almost a decade. Cody’s father, Dusty Rhodes, was one of the most respected veterans to ever work in NXT.
When asked if Cody would ever want to take his father’s place in NXT, the 38-year-old had a definite answer. Cody said, “Dusty taught communication. He taught promos, he called it communication. No one really filled that spot after he left. I always thought somebody like a Mick Foley or somebody would fill that spot — somebody who’s been there, did it.”“
Dusty was responsible for creating the Stars of Tomorrow in the early 2010s. The outputs of Dusty’s work in NXT are stars like Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns, Bayley, and many others. Therefore, Cody Rhodes believes that the legacy that the American Dream left behind cannot be copied again.
