Cody Rhodes, now a prominent figure in the wrestling world known for his humility and generosity, hasn’t always been perceived that way. In his early days, particularly during his time in WWE, there were instances where his behavior may have been less than ideal. Justin Gabriel recounted that WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry and Booker T had to stop Rhodes.
During an appearance on the Cafe de Rene podcast, former WWE wrestler, Justin Gabriel recounted moments from Cody Rhodes’ early career, shedding light on a particular altercation they had. According to Gabriel, there was a disagreement between him and Rhodes that escalated to the point of a physical confrontation. Rhodes allegedly took issue with some storylines that Gabriel had pitched to Creative, leading to tension between the two.
Gabriel initially thought Rhodes was joking, but when the latter swung at him, he reacted defensively, pushing him away. Realizing Rhodes was serious, Gabriel found himself laughing, which seemed to further provoke Rhodes. Fortunately, before the situation could escalate, fellow wrestlers, Mark Henry and Booker T intervened, diffusing the confrontation. Despite the heated moment, Gabriel downplayed the incident, suggesting that Rhodes quickly resolved it and likely forgot about it.
Me and Cody back in the day had a little tiff but nothing serious. He went to creative and he got some storylines kiboshed, but nothing too serious. I think we got into a fist fight over it once. I thought he was joking at first, so he kinda like swung and I kinda did this [fell back] and I pushed him away. I was like, ‘Oh, s**, he’s trying to fight me!’ I was laughing, laughing, and that just p*** him off even more, and then by that time Mark Henry and Booker were there to pull us apart.Justin Gabriel
Cody Rhodes and Justin Gabriel have a shared history dating back to their time in WWE, where they engaged in multiple matches. However, while Gabriel has since retired from professional wrestling, Rhodes has ascended to the peak of his career, recently winning the Royal Rumble. However, despite this triumph, Rhodes faces disappointment as The Rock unexpectedly steals his WrestleMania spot.
Cody Rhodes dominates WWE merchandise sales
Last week’s SmackDown made a controversial decision when The Rock potentially abused his power to steal Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania spot. However, this unexpected turn of events seems to have inadvertently fueled the popularity of The American Nightmare even further. Despite The Rock’s iconic status, reports reveal that Rhodes dominates the WWE merchandise sales, with five of his shirts securing top positions in the list, while The Rock’s merchandise barely makes a dent, landing only at the tenth spot.
Notably, Rhodes’ Claim Your Kingdom variant occupies the top three positions, underscoring the fervent support he commands from fans. This surge in popularity reflects fans’ dissatisfaction with the ongoing storyline, which has been unfolding for over two years. Even with the star power of The Rock, fans seem to gravitate more towards Rhodes, signaling a shift in WWE’s fan base preferences.
The recent main event segment featuring Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and The Rock appears to have further fueled this fan fervor. While WWE may have intended for this controversial main event to stir emotions and garner attention, it seems to have inadvertently solidified Rhodes’ position as a fan favorite, potentially altering the landscape of WWE’s future storylines.
