AEW has been facing WWE head-on in the Tuesday Night Wars for quite some time now. While Tony Khan, AEW’s President, has expressed his desire to become the top wrestling show on Tuesday nights, Triple H has denied any competitiveness with the promotion.

Last year saw AEW beat WWE a few times in the rantings wars, while also facing some heavy blows to viewership later down the line. While WWE has enjoyed a good deal of improvement in quality after Vince McMahon’s supposed retirement in 2022, AEW hasn’t improved much quality wise. AEW has beaten WWE more times in head-to-head battle on Wednesday Night Wars in 2019-2021. But what’s the current state of the two brands? Let’s look at who has more viewers between the two?

Fans saw AEW in the rise from 2019-2021. The company also defeated WWE NXT on Tuesday nights in their ratings war. However, recent ratings of AEW hasn’t gotten any better. In fact, if they are any indication of the future of the company, AEW might not look to even face WWE head-on anymore.

AEW’s roster has gotten pretty big, including ex-WWE superstars like Jon Moxley(Dean Ambrose), Chris Jericho and CM Punk. AEW had every method in the disposal to face and beat WWE. Which they did for some time. However AEW only managed to beat WWE’s NXT show, which is considered to be the least popular of the 3 shows that WWE airs every week. NXT has been rivaling AEW’s Flagship show, Dynamite and the black and gold brand doesn’t have many victories to it’s name.

According to Eric Bischoff, AEW hasn’t been doing good for a while as they are apparently pull in less than a million for the majority of the time. He went on record to state that AEW hasn’t really grown much since a few years. Although it might seem that Bischoff was simply taking shots at the company, it is a matter of fact that the promotion hasn’t been getting any good ratings lately. It might be due to a number of reasons, the most prominent one being the booking. AEW might have the top stars in their roster, but they are not close to WWE in terms of booking talent. They did well in their initial run, but they were only up against the NXT show. As of now, AEW’s flagship show is not considered anywhere near WWE’s flagship shows in terms of quality.

Last year saw AEW get more viewership than WWE’s NXT show, both of which air on Tuesdays. Despite their loss, NXT put on some great matches to compete with AEW. The top stars of AEW such as Jon Moxley and MJF work to put on stellar shows each week. However, due to lack of good booking, AEW shows haven’t improved much in quality.

WWE on the other hand, has thrived under the reign of Triple H. WWE has improved a lot since Vince McMahon’s retirement last year. Better storylines, exciting returns and an improvement in women’s wrestling are just a few of the improvements. AEW on the other hand, is reportedly in a bad position. Backstage drama, frustrated talents and lackluster storylines contribute to the downfall in quality. The recent case of CM Punk blasting the AEW officials and talents on social media added fuel to the fire.

However, things aren’t looking great in WWE either, with the return of Vince McMahon to the company. If RAW after WrestleMania was any indication, things might return to how it was before Triple H’s reign. Vince’s return caused a lot of low morale backstage. Wrestlers were unhappy that things went back to how it was before Triple H took over. As of now, neither promotions have a good prospective future. But in terms of quality, WWE reigns supreme.
