WWE legend and Hollywood megastar Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, was on the recent edition of The Pat McAfee Show in Colorado. The Great One touched upon various interesting topics. One of those is his return to the WWE for a possible WrestleMania match with Roman Reigns.
The wrestler-turned-actor spoke about the highly anticipated match between him and the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He confirmed that the original plan was for The Rock vs. Roman Reigns to headline WrestleMania 39. The Great One also added that an official meeting was held to discuss the potential of the feud.
The Brahma Bull added that he met Vince McMahon and WWE CEO Nick Khan in early 2022. “And about an hour later, we started talking about the potential of what this match could be between myself and Roman Reigns, headlining WrestleMania at SoFi. And we shook hands, and we hugged right there, all three of us at the table and said, ‘Let’s do this’, said the Hollywood star.
However, the initially conceived idea could not materialize. The Rock revealed the reason behind it, saying that he wanted to give the audience an unprecedented experience, something they hadn’t seen in the past. The People’s Champ further teased the possibility of the match at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.
It will be interesting to see if WWE manages to weave a compelling story for their biggest box-office match. The Rock vs. Roman Reigns is one of the most-anticipated matches in pro wrestling. The WWE Universe is on the edge of their seats to behold this at The Showcase of the Immortals.
Roman Reigns reacts to the possible WrestleMania match against The Rock
The Rock made his astonishing return to WWE this week on Friday Night SmackDown. Since then, there has been buzz about the blockbuster match between Roman Reigns and The Rock. A month ago, Reigns reflected on the possibility of The Great One’s comeback and a potential match between the two superstars.
Speaking to Stephan A. on ESPN’s First Take, Reigns was asked about the odds of The Rock returning to challenge the champion for his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The Tribal Chief addressed who he thinks could actually put an end to his historic title reign.
Reigns boldly declared that no one could defeat him, not even The Rock. “We don’t see it, no. I mean, that’s what this past year, a year and a half, has been, contenders from everywhere. Brock Lesnar, John Cena, they come from Hollywood, they come from other sports, Logan Paul, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter anymore. Head and shoulders above everybody. It’s not even funny anymore”, said the Tribal Chief with sheer confidence.
