John Cena and Edge are two of the most iconic superstars in WWE. Their rivalry is considered one of the best and has led to some great matches. The feud started in 2006, when Edge cashed in his Money in the Bank contract over Cena to win his first ever WWE Championship. This memorable incident kicked off their ever-longing feud. The WWE Hall of Famer even slapped John Cena’s father during their ongoing rivalry.

The August 14, 2006, episode of Monday Night RAW kicked off with a video package narrated by the Rated-R Superstar. The video started at John Cena’s father’s house in West Newbury. It further showed Edge and Lita paying a visit to that household and checking on stuff in his kitchen. Both stars then entered John Cena’s room and checked on his various T-shirts and boots while standing on his bed.

The couple then entered Cena’s family room, showcasing a wall of Cena with his mentors’ pictures and a replica of the WWE Championship. As Edge was calling out all of that as crap, Cena Sr. entered the room and ordered them to get out of the house. The Ultimate Opportunist was seen talking about his match against the Cenation Leader at SummerSlam.

As soon as Lita and Edge were about to leave, the WWE Champion abruptly slapped Cena’s father and walked out of the house. As a result, Cena Sr. fell on the couch. This utterly disrespectful act by Edge was narrated by him while he was at the show. The narration was done over the pre-recorded footage as it featured an extra-theatrical performance by Cena Sr. Watch the video here.

The aftermath of this event resulted in a match at SummerSlam. Edge and John Cena faced off against each other in an incredible bout. However, the match was won by Edge with the interruption of Lita, who helped him knock out the former WWE Champion by handing him brass knuckles. Their rivalry is considered one of the greatest rivalries in WWE history.

Rob Van Dam stole a victory over John Cena with the help of Edge

ECW One Night Stand 2006 saw Rob Van Dam emerge victorious over John Cena for his WWE Championship. RVD had already announced his Money in the Bank cash-in and made it official for the event. The hostile crowd was all against Cena as RVD was an ECW guy and they saw ECW over WWE.

Talking on the “1 of a Kind’ podcast, Rob Van Dam said that the moment was emotional for him. He even choked up while talking about it on the show. At that moment, RVD felt like he was at the top of the world. That victory holds a special significance as it was his first-ever world title victory. He enjoyed it more as he did it in his own way and at his favorite moment.

His win was supported by Edge, who had interrupted the matchup, giving the benefit to RVD. The Rated R superstar came wearing a helmet and speared him through the table. As the referee was also knocked out by Edge, Paul Heyman came to RVD’s aid and counted the pinfall for him giving him, the victory.
