Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made it to this week’s AEW Collision. Although it was just a reference, it captured the attention of fans. Adam Copeland got into a heated altercation with Ricky Starks and company. Standing alongside him was Bryan Danielson, who was the one Starks was dealing with. However, he soon turned his attention to the Rated-R Superstar.
It was a mistake on Ricky’s part, as Edge was not someone to mess with. The 33-year-old paid the price when the 11-time World Champion referred to him as a vanilla midg*t version of The Rock. Although Starks did return favors by saying, “Wow, that really sent me over the edge,” the damage was already done. Fans have occasionally compared Ricky Starks’ cadence to that of The Rock.
If one looks at it, the way Ricky Starks presents himself reminds one of The Rock’s early days on SmackDown. So, it’s not like Starks does not possess any of those qualities. However, it’s a far cry from even reaching half of the success Rock has had in pro wrestling.
In that sense, Edge did remind the 33-year-old where he currently stands and what the fans make out of it. Despite unnecessary linkages to The Great One, Starks has managed to create a unique identity for himself. He has made a name for himself in All Elite Wrestling.
Back when he feuded with MJF over the AEW Championship, the world saw why he exuded charisma. Those verbal exchanges with The Devil went hard and appeared as if the 2003 version of The Rock was speaking. Even though The Brahma Bull doesn’t consume much wrestling content these days, he somehow keeps himself updated.
Is The Rock primed for an in-ring return in 2024?
Every year, as the WrestleMania season lines up, everyone’s wondering, “Will The Rock be there for The Grand Spectacle?” Fans have seen disappointing outcomes in that sense, as The People’s Champ hasn’t been a part of WWE’s biggest event since 2016. Back in September, when The Rock made a surprise return on SmackDown, the rumor mill got busy churning out narratives that bind the Black Adam star to WrestleMania.
However, it doesn’t appear like he’ll wrestle at the show in April next year. Last night on SmackDown, the inevitable face-off between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes exterminated all that vagueness out the window. It’s clear as daylight that WWE has locked in Reigns vs. Rhodes II for the 40th anniversary of WrestleMania in Philadelphia.
However, as they say, it’s never say never in WWE. Though the chances of The Rock wrestling a match in Philadelphia are quite dim, he can have a simple appearance. Rumors even say that he could compete at next year’s Elimination Chamber in Australia.
