Allies-turned-foes Bayley and Iyo Sky took center stage on WrestleMania Sunday. Right from the get-go, the vociferous folks at the Lincoln Financial Field were firmly after The Role Model. That infamous crowd singing of hers started echoing throughout as she basked in the adulation. However, the Women’s Champion came prepared. She kept her former mentor vigilant in her movements.
A spot where Bayley did a suicide dive on the outside to Iyo, the veteran hurt her right knee. And an ever-so-adroit Iyo had scouted that Achilles heel. The 49ers’ buff, despite hobbling, didn’t slow down. Sky, on the other hand, kept dishing out maneuvers. She even kicked out of Bayley’s belly-to-belly slam. The Japanese was lethal in her strikes but the ex-Damage CTRL leader had done her homework.
Iyo went into utter disbelief once Bayley kicked out of the over-the-moonsault. The latter went for the rose plant, but the champ countered. And then, a top rope elbow drop followed up by the rose plant was all she needed to dethrone the Genius of the Sky. The fans couldn’t be more happier than they were at the coronation of the former Hugger. With that win, she has now become a 4-time Women’s Champion in WWE.
Her redemption arc seems complete. She just grounded the woman whom she honed while in the Damage CTRL. The 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble match winner had vengeance on her mind, and it paid off. Speaking of Iyo Sky, it was her WrestleMania singles debut, and it was so for her challenger as well. One went down, and the other rose like a phoenix. It would be interesting to see where it leads both of them in their journey moving forward.
