WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is one of the most respected figures in pro wrestling. Over the past two decades, he has managed to stay a popular superstar among fans, winning multiple championships in the process. On the latest episode of SmackDown, Rey took on Santos Escobar for an opportunity to face Austin Theory at SummerSlam.

However, before the match, the two LWO members shared a special moment in the locker room. Escobar gifted Rey Mysterio a special mask, which was a fusion of El Fantasma and Rey Mysterio. The former is Escobar’s father, who is a legend in the Mexican wrestling scene, similar to the Master of 619. Moreover, Escobar said that his time with the LWO was life-changing and that it was the best time of his career.

The two superstars then shook hands and hugged each other, getting ready for their face-off later in the night. Rey Mysterio told Santos Escobar that he should focus on winning and not look at who his opponent is. He also added, “Win or lose, we do it for the people.” They had a match later on in the show, which had an interesting ending.

During the match, Escobar took down Rey with a flying maneuver between the ropes. However, it is reported that Rey landed on his head and suffered an injury. Due to this, he was not allowed to compete in the match, and Santos Escobar was declared the winner. Updates about the injury have not been disclosed, as it is unclear if the injury was real or a part of the storyline.

Since aligning with each other and reforming the LWO, Rey Mysterio has been a guide and a mentor for Legado del Fanstasma. Mysterio and Escobar have teamed up in numerous matches in the past months, and the pairing has been popular with the fans. Therefore, when the two men shared a sweet moment on the July 28 episode of SmackDown, fans were quick to react to it online.

However, according to the fans, the happiness might not last long for Mysterio, as everyone predicts that Escobar might soon turn heel and take down Rey Mysterio. This would make a lot of sense, but the breakup would be sad to see, as LWO has been a consistently popular faction on WWE for the past few months.
