The fans were eagerly waiting for the official names of Hall of Fame 2023 inductees. Unlike previous years, WWE has held back from announcing any names until the last month before the ceremony. However, everyone was just as happy to hear the news that Rey Mysterio would be the first inductee into the Hall of Fame class of 2023.
The news was made official on the latest episode of SmackDown. A video package was shown paying tribute to the illustrious career of the three-time world champion. The vignette also had legends like JBL, Triple H, John Cena, and more, giving their thoughts on Mysterio’s Hall of Fame career.
Rey Mysterio started his pro wrestling career back in 1989 in Mexico. The Biggest Little Man learned the Lucha Libre style from his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr., when he was just 14 years old. The young talent made his way up to WCW and became a staple in its cruiserweight division. Although he never won the world title in the company, he remained with the promotion until it was sold to WWE in 2001.
The Vince McMahon-run company welcomed the Luchador in 2002, and he became a unique presence on the show. Since then, the Ultimate Underdog has held almost every title in his decorated career, becoming a Grand Slam Champion in WWE. Thus, Rey Mysterio getting recognized as the newest member of the WWE Hall of Fame is well deserved. The Hall of Fame ceremony will be live on Friday, March 31st, immediately following SmackDown.

Wrestling Twitter congratulates Rey Mysterio on his big day
Currently, Rey Mysterio is the only official name in the Hall of Fame 2023. As WrestleMania weekend gets closer fans can expect more names to be revealed. After the announcement was made, the Masked man himself came out on SmackDown to address the WWE Universe. However, his son Dominik and the rest of Judgment Day ruined his day once again.
Nevertheless, the fans were extremely happy for the Master of 619 and congratulated him on Twitter. While some were quick to point out how the 48-year-old is still in his “prime,” others also noticed that the SmackDown superstar getting inducted as an active part of the roster was surreal. Here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
