WWE’s upcoming premium live event, Survivor Series, is just a week away. It will emanate from Chicago’s Allstate Arena. As time passes, the speculation about CM Punk returning to the show has been getting intense. In a recent post on ‘X’, a fan spotted a seemingly hidden CM Punk reference in the WWE’s latest merchandise. This has sparked a lot of excitement in the WWE Universe.

For those who don’t know, WWE generates the highest revenue from its generic merchandise sales. They are either based on the superstars or they seem to represent a particular PLE. Ahead of the Survivor Series, WWE unveiled the latest merchandise that seems to have some peculiar symbols. Notably, it had the lightning bolts on it that are part of CM Punk’s logo.

Ever since his AEW contract termination on September 2, there has been a flood of speculation about CM Punk’s return to WWE. From Shinsuke Nakamura hitting a GTS to Ricochet to WWE dropping subtle Punk references on weekly shows, the WWE Universe has been getting potential teases of the return of the Second City Saint.

With WWE releasing recent merchandise with lightning bolt symbols in it, it once again sparked rumors of CM Punk’s homecoming. However, there are currently conflicting reports about the 45-year-old’s return. According to recent reports, the two parties are not in any conversation.

The WWE fans were often seen hijacking the arena with loud CM Punk chants. A glimpse of that was seen during Crown Jewel 2023. Survivor Series will take place in Chicago this year, which happens to be the hometown of the Second City Saint. Therefore, fans have been highly speculating about his return to WWE in the upcoming PLE.

Nick Aldis opines on CM Punk’s potential WWE return

Nick Aldis is a seasoned veteran in the world of professional wrestling. Fans recently saw him join an on-screen role in WWE as SmackDown’s General Manager. During a recent appearance on the BBC’s Radio Norfolk Show, Aldis had some thoughts about the former AEW superstar. He praised CM Punk for the work that he brings to the table.

According to Nick Aldis, Punk has an unfathomable fanbase and has sold much merchandise over the years. Moreover, he highlighted that the Second City Saint always brings a great number of viewership to shows and sells tickets. The SmackDown General Manager believes that WWE could bring him back as it would benefit the company.

He's built and cultivated a huge fanbase, he sells a ton of merchandise, he moves numbers, he sells tickets, he puts butts in seats. Call me old fashioned, but that trumps everything else. There is a way for him to compete in WWE and I think that if it can be done, and I think there is a way it can be really good business for everybody.

Aldis seems to acknowledge the fact that some might find his thinking old-fashioned. However, he believes that Punk’s ability to cultivate a loyal fanbase, boost TV ratings, and sell tickets is something to be noted. Few wrestlers show the mystique that the name CM Punk has developed around itself. While his appearance remains uncertain, the anticipation might itself be a big ticket seller for WWE Survivor Series 2023.
