Former Divas Champion Melina is considered one of WWE’s trailblazing women’s champions. When women’s wrestling was not as important as it is today, Melina showed everyone that women can wrestle as well. However, the former champion recently talked about taking her own life because of the problems she faced due to her affair with former WWE Champion Dave Bautista.
In a Twitter exchange, the 44-year-old revealed that she contemplated suicide during her early times in WWE. A fan tweeted saying that Melina never performed well in WWE. The fan also said that she got attention only because of her affair with a married man, ie Batista. While replying to this, the five-time Women’s Champion revealed that she did not want to talk about it as it would paint her in a bad light.
She blamed the person who started the rumors saying that the person did not even care that the words might ruin people’s lives. Melina and Batista knew each other while working in WWE and started dating after both divorced their spouses. The couple dated for months before breaking up. The breakup was public as the relationship between the two did not end well.
Melina was released from WWE due to the problems with Batista. She would not return to WWE for many years after that. Apart from making some sporadic appearances since 2019, Melina was also an entrant in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble. She faces off against Sasha Banks and was eliminated by Banks in less than a minute.
Melina celebrates 18 years of debuting in the WWE
Former WWE Superstar Melina debuted on SmackDown 18 years ago on 30th June 2005. She also wrestled Michelle McCool on the show and defeated the Hall of Famer in her first match on the blue brand. Melina managed the tag team of John Morrison and Joey Mercury, who were called MNM. Apart from being a manager, the 44-year-old also won the Women’s Championship on three occasions.
The era of Lita, Trish Stratus was coming to an end as 2005 began. New superstars like Beth Pheonix, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, and Melina took over and entertained the fans for years ahead. In the throwback tweet Melina shared, she wrote, “Tonight is the World Premiere of MELINA.”
When the Divas Championship was introduced for the women’s roster in WWE, Melina won the title two times. She had notable feuds with Michelle McCool, Layla, Kaitlyn, Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, and many others. The women are also remembered by fans for being decent workers in the ring during the time when women’s wrestling was not given importance.
