“What a miserable day,” Former WWE superstar says it was a nightmare to work with The Ultimate Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior was an average in-ring performer, often termed "unsafe" in the ring by his colleagues. A former WWE superstar has now expressed his dislike of working with Warrior.

The Ultimate Warrior was one of the most popular wrestlers of the 1990s. His high-energy entrances and bodybuilder physique with face paint were one of the main reasons the crowd was attracted to him. While he was an average in-ring worker, his mic skills were horrible, with him often being incoherent during his promos.

The Ultimate Warrior could easily draw massive crowds, often leading to sold-out shows. He became the top babyface in the company after he defeated Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania VI. Even though Warrior was limited in the ring, his matches against Ravishing Rick Rude, Hulk Hogan, and Randy Savage were some of the best matches in the 90s.

The Ultimate Warrior was often referred to as a reckless in-ring worker. He even made the best in-ring workers look horrible in the ring. Former WWE Superstar George South, who worked as an enhancement talent during the 1990s, has now spoken about his experiences facing The Ultimate Warrior.

South claimed that wrestlers hoped that their opponent wouldn’t be The Ultimate Warrior in an interview with WSI’s James Romero. He said it would be extremely simple to make money by fighting the Honky Tonk Man. When South and his fellow wrestlers discovered they were going up against Ultimate Warrior, South remarked how dreadful it made them feel.

“Please don’t let it be Ultimate Warrior, please don’t let it be Ultimate Warrior.’ But when you saw Honky Tonk Man, oh my goodness……This is the easiest money you’re ever gonna make. if you saw your name against Warrior…… what a miserable day. You couldn’t eat nothing. You didn’t wanna talk to nobody. Oh gosh.”

The Ultimate Warrior’s star power kept rising in the early 90s. Even though he wasn’t the finest in-ring worker, he demanded to be paid equally to the top stars in the company. Warrior’s demands were fulfilled by Vince McMahon, to ensure that he would appear at SummerSlam 1991. He was suspended following the event and attempted to leave the company.

His resignation was rejected, as he was still bound by a contract. He returned to the company when Hulk Hogan was leaving the WWE in 1992. He didn’t last long after his return. A heavy steroid user during his wrestling career, Warrior failed the drug test in the midst of the government’s crackdown on steroid use in wrestling. This eventually led to his departure from WWE.

He was semi-retired after his departure in 1992 and occasionally wrestled during that time. In 1995, he competed in the National Wrestling Conference and the Catch Wrestling Association. The Ultimate Warrior returned to the WWE in 1996, but his character proved to be lacklustre in the midst of pro wrestling’s transition.

Warrior’s contract was terminated due to his not showing up at several house shows. The former WWE Champion had given the death of his father as the reason for missing the house shows. However, Vince McMahon disputed the claims, saying that Warrior hadn’t seen his father in ten years, so the reason wasn’t logical.

The Ultimate Warrior had a brief stint in WCW in 1998 and announced his retirement from wrestling in the same year. His last known wrestling match was at the Nu Wrestling Evolution promotion in 2008, where he wrestled only a single match.

Warrior’s departure from WWE was on bad terms; the two sides had bad blood between them. The Ultimate Warrior and the WWE eventually made peace with each other in 2014. Their animosity was rectified, and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014.

The WWE Hall of Famer died of a heart attack two days after being inducted into the Hall of Fame. A day before his death, he appeared on RAW, where he delivered an energetic and motivational speech. The WWE paid tribute to him by performing a ten-bell salute at the following edition of RAW.
